LAKE CHARLES (AP) — Lake Charles police say an officer shot a pit bull that ran toward him as he crawled under a house to look for a burglary suspect.
Deputy Chief Mark Kraus says the officer also used a stun gun on the dog, which died during emergency surgery.
Kraus says the K-9 officer had been told that a man he was chasing Thursday had hidden under the house. He says the officer was on his stomach and nearly underneath the house when the dog ran toward him.

Watch the season 5 premier of Pit Bulls and parolees. The dogs owner is on the episode going to adopt a new dog. He said that the dog who was shot pulled him out of his depression while going through cancer treatment. The dogs owner was outside at the time because he heard noise and a rukus then a gunshot. The dog and owner using his cane to walk went outside. He saw a police officer opening his gate he lost his balance and fell. The dog did not go after the officer and the owner was yelling to not shot his dog. The police were not after the owner. They shot anyways assuming the dog was mean.
