A Lake Charles man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to four counts of fourth-offense DWI on Tuesday.

Judge Kent Savoie sentenced Zachery Kane Vezina, 35, to 15 years on each count, to run concurrently, with credit for time served. Savoie also ordered Vezina to complete a treatment program, although that may not happen until after he is discharged.

Vezina was arrested for fourth-offense DWI on Oct. 11, 2008, when state police pulled him over for improper passing, prosecutor Lester Robinson said. Vezina refused to take a breathalyzer test, he said. Vezina had previously been convicted of DWI on March 25, 2003, and on two DWI charges on July 1, 2008, Robinson said.

State police stopped Vezina for a traffic violation again on Sept. 6, 2009, and arrested him for DWI, the prosecutor said. Vezina again refused to take a breathalyzer test, Robinson said.

When Vezina was stopped on Lake Street on March 25, 2011, he provided a breath sample, which was above the legal limit, the prosecutor said.

On Oct. 26, 2013, Calcasieu Parish sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on the corner of Dobertine and Leger roads, Robinson said. Vezina, who was arrested when he tried to leave the scene, refused to give a breath sample, Robinson said.

Vezina asked to read a letter in court, but Savoie did not allow him to do so. Savoie told Vezina he had tried to get him help, “but I became frustrated with you over the years.”

“You sunk to the depths,” Savoie said. “And the only way for you is up.”

Title: Praying for you Zackaria

Zack is a good person who just made some bad choices and giving him that amount of time is a real travesty. I worked with Zack for awhile and he was always fun to be around, I needed some paint & body work done ASAP and when I called him he didn't hesitate to help me the same day. He was never the same after losing a close friend and that may have caused some emotional problems. I will be praying for you Zack and your family.

Title: Good Man Bad Choices

I have know Zach since he was a young boy, he is a good man that has made some very bad choices. Zach comes from a very loving family that has tried to help him but as stated in the previous comment Alchoholism is a terrible disease, I do not agree with some of the choices that Zach has made but you must also see the good in the man that he is. Alcoholism is a disease and we as a society do not treat it as we do other disease we do not make sure that there is treatment provided no matter thier fincial status. He has a young child and she will miss her daddy greatly and he will miss out on the many changes that will take place the next 15 years. I love you Zach you are strong so prove to everyone that you are a good man.

Title: Alcoholism is a terrible disease!

This is a man who has a terrible disease called alcoholism. He has struggled most of his life because of it. He drank for many reasons, mostly like the others, he suffers with bi-polar. He makes many mistakes, then afterward suffers emotionally for what he has done. Drinking helped ease the pain. It was his medication that kept him in a loop hole of despair. I have known him all of his life. He is talented, loving and giving. He loves his little girl and I know his heart is broken because he will not be a part of her life for many years. I pray Zach will have some positive things happen to him now. He is a threat to himself and others. Alcoholism is a terrible disease. I love you Zach! Stay strong!
