A 19-year-old Lake Charles man has been arrested after being connected to the burglary of a church, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Christopher Bartie Jr., 236 N. Cherry St., was arrested Friday after he was linked to the crime by fingerprints left at the scene.

“On June 25 deputies were dispatched to a church on Mill Street in reference to a burglary alarm that had been triggered,” Myers said in a news release. “An employee of the church said that two laptop computer and a camera, valued at over $1,000, were stolen.”

Myers said Bartie, who has been incarcerated since July 2012 on unrelated charges, was re-arrested and charged with simple burglary and theft over $500.

When questioned by detectives, Myers said Bartie confirmed he burglarized the church and stole the items.

Detective Eddie Curol was the lead investigator.
