The man who founded the Just for Jesus rallies in Lake Charles was arrested Wednesday in Houston on charges of possession of stolen property, authorities said.
James P. Bertrand Jr., 51, bought a $67,000 vehicle at a Lake Area dealership Nov. 1, but the contract was void because his driver’s license was suspended, said Kim Myers, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The dealership tried to retrieve the vehicle twice, but was unable to, she said.
Houston police found the vehicle at a Houston motel, where Bertrand was arrested, Myers said.
Bertrand had an outstanding warrant in Texas for driving while intoxicated, she said. He was arrested there on cocaine and DWI charges in September.
He will be charged with motor vehicle theft once he’s extradited to Calcasieu Parish, Myers said.
