The Louisiana Department of Education today announced the latest results of the End-of-Course exams for high school students.

The Department said that test scores improved statewide.

The exams were given to all students enrolled in Algebra I, English II, Geometry and Biology. The tests were administered in December 2011 and again in May.

The released scores are the results of both the May and December tests combined.

Students earn one of four achievement levels on EOC exams: Excellent, Good, Fair or Needs Improvement. To earn a passing score students must earn a rating of “Fair,” or higher in a subject.

“We are extremely proud of our students for their performance on these tests and of our teachers for their preparation and continued efforts in the classroom,” said State Superintendent of Education John White in a press release. “These results are tangible proof that the state’s education reforms are working. As Louisiana Believes is implemented in schools across the state, we hope to see students’ performance on standardized tests continue to improve.”

In Calcasieu Parish, students scored highest on the English II exam with 93 percent passing and 22 percent scoring in the “excellent” category.

Calcasieu saw 81 percent of its students pass the Algebra exam, with 22 percent scoring in the “excellent” category.

For the geometry exam, they had 83 percent pass, with 22 percent scoring an “excellent” rating.

For the biology exam, 90 percent of Calcasieu students passed, with 15 percent scoring an “excellent” rating.

Students in Allen, Beauregard, Cameron and Vernon parishes also saw the highest passing rate on the English II exam.
