BATON ROUGE — For the third consecutive game, LSU sent nine batters to the plate in the opening inning as the Tigers posted a 16-2 victory over Southern University Wednesday night at Alex Box Stadium.

The 16 runs were a season high for the Tigers (32-2), who extended their winning streak to 14 games and 27 of their last 28 games.

“I was pleased that we got all of our position players into the game tonight and everyone was able to make a contribution,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said.

LSU freshman Alex Bregman extended his hitting streak to 22 games the same night he was invited to play for Team USA.

Mason Katz drove in his NCAA-leading 60th RBI of the season for the Tigers, who scored seven runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Christian Ibarra’s three-run double.

Hunter Devall (3-0) earned the victory in his first career start, allowing one run on one hit in two innings of work.

Starter Zephan Rochelle (1-2) suffered the loss for Southern (12-14), allowing seven runs on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout in three innings.
