LSU will be back in Houston for a neutral-site game to open the 2017 football season against BYU.

In fact, it’s starting to look like the Tigers’ opening at home against McNeese State to start 2015 may be the last in Tiger Stadium to open a season for a while.

The Tigers are scheduled to open the 2016 season in Green Bay’s famed Lambeau Field against Wisconsin.

The 2018 season opener is spoken for with a game against Miami in the Dallas suburbs at Jerry Jones’ AT&T Stadium.

The Tigers have opened four of their last five seasons at neutral sites — Atlanta (North Carolina in 2010), Dallas (Oregon in 2011, TCU in 2013) and Houston (Wisconsin last season).

LSU has never lost a season opener at a neutral site, which generally feature more challenging matchups.

The BYU game, which will be the first meeting between the schools, will be played as the AdvoCare Kickoff in NRG Stadium, home of the NFL Houston Texans.

In a statement released by the school, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said, “The turnout and response from our fans far exceeded our expectations,” he said of last year’s 28-24 win in Houston against Wisconsin. “Houston is a great city with a huge LSU alumni base and NRG Stadium continues to be one of the great venues for football.”

To get the deal done, LSU will have to rearrange its scheduled 2017 home opener against Georgia Southern.

LSU officials said that game will be played, but will be moved to another date in the season.””
