If families in for the holidays are looking for something to do, Jen Kober will be more than willing to get them partying.

The comedian and Lake Charles native will perform her Big Fat Comedy Christmas Show at Luna Live, 710 Ryan St., at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22. The show will also feature comedians Jeff DeRouen and Katie East. Tickets can be purchased prior to the show online at or by phone at 1-800-838-3006.

Kober said she designed her Christmas comedy show, which she performs annually, as a way to bring families together during the holidays.

“I come into town for the holidays to visit my family and so I try to put on a big show while I’m here because everyone’s families are in town and there’s nothing for them to do. We just want it to feel like a big holiday party,” comedian Jen Kober said.

Kober is currently living in Los Angeles, but said that she prefers performing in her hometown.

“I’m a high-energy, southern-style story teller. I tell a lot of stories about my family and growing up here, and then about my life in Los Angeles where I’m kind of a fish out of water, a hick in Beverly Hills. I have stories about my interactions with everyone from John Goodman to Charlie Sheen,” Kober said, “I love performing in Lake Charles, it’s how I develop new material. I write things and then come back here to test it out.”

Kober said it’s hard to find an audience in Los Angeles

“If you’re not a big name there, people won’t come to your show when Dane Cook is also performing. I like to come home and do these big shows and see which of my jokes work.”

Kober said that when she arrives back in Los Angeles after the holidays she’ll begin auditioning for new sitcoms while pilot episodes are being pitched for the new year. In the past year she has already had guest spots on shows such as “Anger Management,” in which she will be featured in a multi-episode story arc.

“I’ll also be on ‘Standup in Stilettos’ on the TV Guide channel. From January to April I’ll be pounding the pavement in Los Angeles auditioning for pilots. This is a big year for me, I’m very excited.”
