A Kinder man is dead and a Oberlin man has been charged with vehicular homicide following a single-vehicle accident in Allen Parish Thursday night, state police.
Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman, said 25-year-old Christopher Anny died in an accident on Lauderdale Woodyard Road, just north of U.S. 190 in Allen Parish.
Anny was a passenger in the vehicle driven by 18-year-old Joshua James McGrit, of Oberlin.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that McGrit's vehicle ran off the road and struck a utility pole on the passenger side," Anderson said Friday in a news release. "The vehicle then continued through a yard before striking a vehicle parked outside a residence."
Anderson said neither of the men were wearing a seat belt. Anny was pronounced dead at the scene and McGrit was transported to a Lake Charles hospital with moderate injuries.
"Impairment on the part of McGrit is suspected to be a factor in the crash," Anderson said. "McGrit was released from the hospital this morning and was booked into the Allen Parish Jail for vehicular homicide, DWI, careless operation, and failure to wear a seat belt."
Troop D has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 17 fatalities so far this year, Anderson said.
