The Business and Career Solutions Center Calcasieu Consortium will host its quarterly Job Start Job Fair 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, July 9, at the center’s main office, 2424 Third St.
Residents seeking employment can register for the event through 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8. Registration forms can be filled out at the center.
Crystal Scott, the center’s business services manager, said officials expect up to 30 employers and up to 250 job seekers at the event. Veterans will get priority service before the public can meet with employers, she said.
“There will be multiple occupations, including health care, local industries, offshore opportunities, construction, craft opportunities and banking,” Scott said.
She said job seekers will be able to have a brief interview with prospective employers. They should wear business attire and bring several copies of their resume and a picture ID.
“We find that a lot of employers accept resumes on the spot and may hire on the spot,” she said. “The advantage of the job fair is that there are many employers in one location. It’s a one-on-one opportunity for individuals to sell themselves in conversation and give their resumes.”
The center does provide resume assistance, but Scott said applicants should take advantage of that before going to the job fair. She said the business center’s next job fair will be on October in the Civic Center.
“We are outgrowing our space, so we have to expand,” she said.
