BATON ROUGE (AP) — A state district judge in Baton Rouge has ruled that LSU’s search for a new president was conducted in illegal secrecy.

Judge Janice Clark granted a motion filed by The Advocate and The Times-Picayune.

In a short minute entry issued after Thursday’s hearing, Clark ordered LSU to furnish the names of about three dozen candidates, saying those names were public records.

The Advocate reported the names were placed on a Web site for members of the Board of Supervisors’ search committee but the public was denied access.

LSU and a search consultant refused to turn over the names of any candidates except F. King Alexander, who was eventually awarded the job.

University spokesman Herb Vincent said LSU did not have any comment Thursday.””AP-Editorial-7-27-13-photo
