JENNINGS - An investigation continues into what led to the death of a Jennings man found lying in a roadway New Year's Eve.

"It is still an active investigation," Police Chief Todd D'Albor said Thursday. "There are people out there who have information and we are working to talk to them as we try to tie up the loose ends and continue to put the pieces together."

Keagan Reon, 21, of Jennings was arrested Wednesday on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Ruston Reed, 21, of Jennings.

Police believe Reon shot Reed once in the head with a pistol at a residence on Joe Louis Street in Jennings before allegedly dumping the victim's body on Racca Road just off La. 102 east of the city.

Reed's body was discovered by a passing motorist around 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Jules Patrick Batiste Jr., 22, of Jennings was also arrested on an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder charge.

Police believe Reed was shot at Batiste's residence earlier in the evening before his body was dumped on Racca Road.

"We feel confident as to where the crime occurred and the two people who were present at the time of the murder," D'Albor said. "We believe Keagan Reon is the shooter and that the shooting took place at Mr. Batiste's house.

Both men are being held without bond in the Jeff Davis Parish Jail.
