Federal Judge Patti Minaldi was arrested Thursday for having an open alcoholic beverage container in her vehicle.
The Lake Charles Police Department began investigating a report of a traffic complaint involving a white Ford Thunderbird in the area of Country Club and Weaver roads at 1:25 p.m., according to a news release from Cpl. Larry Moss, LCPD spokesman.
Officers stopped the vehicle in a private driveway on Fairway Drive, which was later determined to be a residence of Minaldi, Moss said.
Minaldi was arrested for having an open container and transported to police headquarters where she was issued a summons and released.

Title: Equal Justice for All
Hopefully the press will protect our public interest and pursue the dash cam video from the event involving Judge Minaldi. It will reveal her resisting arrest and intoxicated, in addition to the open container.

Title: RE: " Citizen for Recovery" comment
Dear "Citizen for Recovery", it has come to my attention that you are addicted to crack and frequent strip clubs. I know that due to being a minister you must keep a low profile unfortunately your cover is blown. Hopefully the Serial Killer task force out of Jennings is looking at you in connection to the murder of eight woman,
Seriously? How do you "poof" come up with a label for someone? Because surely if you can just label someone based on nothing but a ill written article by a two bit reporter than it appears I can label you also. This is an extremely judgmental Parish and a Parish that instead of giving the benefit of the doubt immediately wants to crucify a person just because, well just because some people in this parish think they can. I'm really starting to wonder about our local education system all around.

Title: Get the Law Straight!
LA & Nationwide container laws here:
Local Municipalities may enact ordinances which are more restrictive but not less restrictive than state law proscribes.
La. Rev. Stat. Ann. §32:300
A. It shall be unlawful for the operator of a motor vehicle or the passenger in or on a motor vehicle, while the motor vehicle is operated on a public highway or right-of-way, to possess an open alcoholic beverage container, or to consume an alcoholic beverage, in the passenger area of a motor vehicle.
F. The provisions of this section shall not apply to the following persons or in the following areas:
(1) Any person operating or occupying a motor vehicle who, as a condition of his employment and while acting in the course and scope of such employment, is required to carry open alcoholic beverage containers, provided that the operator or passenger does not consume the alcoholic beverages.
(2) Any paid fare passenger on a common or contract carrier vehicle, as defined in R.S. 45:162.
(3) Any paid fare passenger on a public carrier vehicle, as defined in R.S. 45:200.2.
(4) Any passenger in a courtesy vehicle which is operated as a courtesy vehicle.
(5) Any passenger of a self-contained motor home which is in excess of 21 feet in length.
(6) Possession of an open container of alcoholic beverage in the trunk of a motor vehicle.

Title: Disablity of Judge Minaldi
Unfortunately, Judge Minaldi has been an alcoholic for some time. This incident is a direct result of her disease. We urge the Chief Judge to mandate treatment and post treatment monitoring. Hopefully, she will achieve recovery and fulfill her duties to herself and the public. If not she should be dismissed from the bench.

Title: Situation Normal: All Fowled Up (SNAFU)
Let me see if I get this straight.
(1) The judge is in her driveway.
(2) The vehicle isn't moving.
(3) There's an open container in the vehicle.
Was there a pursuit? Did her Honor flee the scene of an accident? Who phone in the complaint? What was the nature of the complaint? "The Judge is drunk again after 'boozing it up with her buddies?" Did the officers observe her operating the vehicle? A little more info please, before someone is crucified in the obviously biased court of public opinion.
Drew Breeze routinely 'boozes it up' with his buddies at a local bar in his neighborhood. And his image reaches a lot more 'kids' than does Judge Minaldi's. Sure, we hols such people to a higher standard. But officials such as Judge Minaldi are at least approachable. More of them should visit local restaurants and 'hang' with us common folk, as opposed to holding themselves out as being something beyond human.
The local 'open-container' law is a joke. I can go anywhere and walk out with a styrofoam cup sealed with a piece of masking tape. That's a 'closed' container?
Let's get biblical. The last perfect person died on a cross. Go out to your driveway and see if there's a beer can in the back of your car. No? Ever been?

Title: Common Sense
We know that police tracked this woman down because others had reported concerns about her driving, i. e. she was DUI. Now, if her driving was bad enough to cause concern in other motorists, she most probably should have been BOOKED for a DUI. BUT, she was given a summons and released??? This smells to high heaven. These judges think they are ABOVE THE LAW most of the times. Word has it she is GOOD FRIENDS with the chief of police and it is being swept under the rug. I have been a MADD for years, and i feel strongly that something must be done about this. If this story isn't followed up, I will contact Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC!

Title: Concerned Too
Will the newspaper PLEASE look into this more and give the citizens of LC more specifics on this situation? Maybe a follow up story?

Title: WHAT IS GOING ON???
Somebody needs to look into this matter ASAP. The rumor mill is going crazy that this woman was driving the WRONG way on the interstate. Is this true???? If so, this could have been catostophic! And at at time when school children would be going home because of bad weather. The only thing published thus far what that police were responding to a "traffic complaint". What was the complaint? Where is the press on this matter? The television news media? This matter MUST be looked into more than it is!

Title: We need a new chief of police
When the police take care of the big shots and then crucify the little common people it is time to get a new chief who will treat all equal.........the LCPD should be ashamed of their behavior..............SO NOW OUR LAKE CHARLES POLICE DEPT WILL TOLERATE DRUNK DRIVING IF IT IS A JUDGE............WILL THEY LET EVERYONE ELSE DRIVE DRUNK....SAD SAD SAD............PATHETIC
I ALWAYS KNEW THEY TOOK CARE OF POLICE WHO DRIVE DRUNK OFF HOURS BUT NOW THE JUDGE CAN DRIVE DRUNK.....THANKS LCPD...........I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR A RAISE FOR THESE BUMS

Title: Town Talk
C'mon LCPD! an open container summons, geeze...The average person would have been arrested for DUI and crucified on the local news. She has been seen on multiple occasions (not hard miss with that multi-color hair) boozing it up with her buddies in area local resturants. Wait till MADD gets ahold of this one! Hopefully they will make an example out of her (since LCPD wont) that NO one is above the law. Maybe she should have gotten arrested by CPSO because I don't think our Sheriff would tolorate this behavior.

Title: Naughty Judge needs a good Spanking
Drinking and driving at 1pm on a Thursday. Sounds like it should be a DUI or reckless, but definitely a US Judicial Code of Conduct violation:
(A) Respect for Law. A judge should respect and comply with the law and should act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.
But Judges only answer to Judges, and so we expect she will only get a token spanking.

Title: Drunk Federal Judge
It is amazing the police received complaints yet she did not get a DUI? The police are padding the ticket because she is a Federal Judge.
