It’s a bar now, with Riverside Resort on the way

Published 9:20 am Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Riverside Resort is located on 2,000 feet of river frontage property. It is still under construction but when completed it will have facilities for up to 250 recreational vehicles, 75 rental cabins, two restaurants, three bars, a banquet room, and concession stand, bait shop and convenience store.

Located on the Calcasieu River at 3748 Highway 3059 (Old Town Road) in Lake Charles, it is an ongoing project that James Mistretta started developing several years ago. They currently have Loggerheads Bar open at 2 p.m. every Wednesday-Friday and at noon every Saturday and Sunday.

What is the atmosphere like?

We have live music on most weekends and a band every Sunday afternoon. Loggerheads Bar is an upscale, non-smoking bar. It has six large screen TVs, two stone fireplaces, and offers indoor or outdoor patio seating overlooking the Calcasieu River. It’s a great place to watch your favorite team, have a drink, visit with friends or watch the sunset. We also have an outdoor tiki bar and patio area. The bar is for anyone 21 and older.

Next to Loggerheads Bar we have Loggerheads Bait Stand which has plenty docking for boats to tie up and shore power. Loggerheads Bait Stand is a small store which sells fuel, ice, baits, tackle, boating essentials and convenient store items.

What else does Riverside have to offer?

Riverside is the home dock for the Lady of the Lake which is a three-story, 105-foot yacht which is rented out for dinner cruises and private parties. It can accommodate up to 150 passengers. We mainly rent it for holiday parties and special occasions but I try to offer a monthly public cruise. (lakecharlesdinnercruises.com)

What are the future plans for Riverside Resort?

I hope to start building the Riverside Bar and Grill next month. It will be two stories and consist of a 5,000-foot bar and grill with a 3,000-foot covered patio. The second floor will consist of a 5,000-foot banquet room and 3,000-foot covered deck. It will have a stage and dance floor and offer indoor and outdoor dining with a glassed view overlooking the river. When completed the banquet facilities will be available for parties and rentals. The whole project will take time to complete but it is my hope to be able to offer a destination place for people to come and be able to enjoy great food, entertainment and culture in a beautiful setting on the Calcasieu River.
