CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi rapped 17 hits off three McNeese State pitchers on the way to an 11-2 Southland Conference baseball victory on Sunday and take the weekend series from the Cowboys.
McNeese (19-26 overall, 13-14) is in a tie for either fifth place or sixth place in the Southland Conference. Northwestern State (12-14) hosted Central Arkansas (13-13) in a late game Sunday.
The Cowboys host UTA Arlington Friday.
Both of the Cowboys’ runs came off of a sixth inning error.
The Bears jumped on McNeese starter Trey McGee (2-2) for 8 hits and 5 runs over the first three innings before giving way to reliever Tyler Parke.
The Islanders roughed up Parke, who gave up three hits and four runs before getting anyone out in the fifth.
McNeese’s only runs came in the sixth off of TAM-Corpus starter Trevor Foss (2-6). Matt Henry had led the inning off with a single and Seth Granger followed with a single. Taylor Drake walked to lead the bases.
Michael Sullivan then struckout but Islander third baseman Dan Sciantarelli was charged with a two-run throwing error, Henry and Granger both scoring.
McNeese will be at home for its next series, hosting Texas-Arlington beginning Friday.
