CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The slump continues to grow for McNeese State.

A complete-game shutout from pitcher Trevor Foss led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 4-0 Southland Conference victory over the Cowboys on Friday night, sending McNeese to its 13th loss in 15 games.

The Cowboys (20-23, 7-12 SLC) have dropped 11 of their last 13 in conference play and will meet the Islanders (26-20, 11-8) again at 5 p.m. today.

Foss (6-6) picked up the win after allowing no runs on three hits and striking out 10 batters in nine innings of work.

McNeese starting pitcher Blake Ware (5-5) was charged with the loss after tossing eight innings and allowed four runs — two earned — on seven hits.

Sam Peterson, Andrew Guillotte and Michael Sullivan each contributed a hit for the Cowboys offense. Peterson also stole a base.

McNeese’s defense was just as bad as its offense, equaling the hit total with three errors.

Corpus Christi took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as the Islanders scored off an Eric Weiss RBI single, which sent in catcher Russell Vaughan, who walked to lead off the inning.

Two plays later, designated hitter Jonathan Gonzales singled up the middle allowing Cody Stephens to plate the second run of the inning.

The Islanders extended their lead in the fifth inning as a double from Stephens sent in Zach Taylor to score while a fielder’s choice allowed Stephens to score later in the inning, making the score 4-0. Both runs were unearned due to a Connor Lloyd throwing error that allowed Taylor to reach.

The McNeese offense has been limited to two runs or fewer in seven of its last 11 losses.””
