IOWA — South Beauregard girls basketball coach Chris Greene was proud of his team Tuesday night.

South Beauregard got a big road win, beating Iowa 66-58 and clinching at least a share of the District 4-3A title.

South Beauregard (22-7, 9-1) can clinch District 4-3A outright if St. Louis beats Iota this Thursday on its home floor.

The share of the 4-3A title means a lot to South Beauregard, which moved up from Class 2A this season.

“It’s a big win for us,” Greene said. “The biggest thing about it is we’re going to be co-district champions at least when two years ago we were playing in Class 2A. 3A is a whole new world. You’ve got better athletes than what you have in 2A. It’s harder to play.”

The game turned on its head after a slow start, opening up to a back-and-forth second half when the Lady K’s outscored the Yellow Jackets (15-13, 2-8) 44-39.

“Iowa was doing a good job of transitioning back on defense but we weren’t pushing the basketball like we do,” Greene said. “We were running, but not with opportunities to turn corners.”

Much of South Beauregard’s production came from its seniors, Katherine Knox and Kathryn Manuel, and freshman Sissy Saucier. The trio combined for 40 points, with Manuel knocking down five 3-pointers and Knox mostly making her presence felt on the inside through her rebounding.

“They did exactly what seniors are supposed to do,” Greene said. “They did the same thing against Iota (last) Friday night. They picked it up to another level.

“(Sissy) makes freshman mistakes and sometimes I forget she’s a freshman on the floor. She does a great job. She’s a power player and that’s how you’ve got to play in 3A.”

Iowa’s Arianna Dargin led all scorers with 20 points.

Title: Lady K's

The Lady K's played amazing against Iowa. They have talent. Sissy is a talented up coming athlete and keep your eyes on Ashlynn Derouen and Mallory Beavers. Coach Greene is a great coach and he has taught the girls a lot. Thank you coach for taking your time to help the girls reach their potential.
