Inmate dies after collapse in St. Mary Parish jail

BALDWIN (AP) — Authorities say an inmate who collapsed over the weekend at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Baldwin died in a Franklin hospital of unknown causes.

The sheriff’s office told The Advocate 41-year-old Anthony Wilson, of Baldwin, had been arrested Friday on a traffic warrant.

Deputies say Wilson collapsed at the jail on Saturday and was taken to a Houma hospital.

Public information officer Traci Landry said Wilson was treated and returned to the jail.

She said deputies on Tuesday found Wilson incoherent and in need of medical assistance.

Wilson was taken to Franklin Foundation Hospital where he died.
