What happened to the bus that was given to McNeese for the athletics department to use? I live behind the McNeese stadium, and the baseball players use charter buses and the track team uses passenger vans. I haven’t seen the bus since it was donated. Also, when will they start working on the McNeese library?
The bus — a 55-seat motor coach donated by Tennessee-based RN Entertainment — is now in use, said Candace Townsend, McNeese State University spokeswoman.
“The process to transfer a vehicle title to a state agency is more lengthy than the process for private citizens to transfer automobile titles,” she wrote in an email.
“In addition, before the bus could be used, McNeese also had to go though the process of adding the bus to the university’s state vehicle inventory.”
University officials hope to begin work on the library by the summer, Townsend said.
The renovation work, she said, is “in various planning stages with the state Office of Facility Planning and Control.”
Once officials OK the plans, bids will be sought, Townsend said.
Schrumpf to run for Division A seat
Which judgeship is Oliver Schrumpf running for? There was an ad on the front page of Sunday’s American Press stating he was running for district judge. Which district? I presume it’s the 14th Judicial District, but it doesn’t state that in the ad. When would the election be?
According to his campaign website, Schrumpf plans to seek the 14th Judicial District Court’s Division A seat, which is now held by Judge Kent Savoie.
The election, involving all nine divisions of the court, will be Nov. 4. The qualifying period will run Aug. 20-22.
Division A is part of Judicial Section 3, which includes Vinton, Sulphur, Carlyss and parts of southwestern Lake Charles.
Judicial Section 3 also encompasses Divisions E and I.
Judicial Section 1 — roughly north and central Lake Charles — consists of Divisions F, H and I.
Judicial Section 2 — northern and eastern Calcasieu Parish — comprises Divisions B, C, D and G.
Statutes address loud exhaust systems
Are loud exhaust systems on cars against the law?
“No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle, above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle and the original muffler shall comply with all of the requirements of R.S. 32:352,” reads R.S. 32:353.
The statute that it refers to says, in part, that “every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise.”
