I have a question about the sewer system they’re wanting to put in the parish. Where would the sewer treatment plant be located in Moss Bluff?
Officials haven’t yet selected a site, said Bryan Beam, Calcasieu Parish administrator.
When they do, he said, they must seek the approval of both the state health and environment departments — a process that includes the acceptance of public comments.
LaFuria’s prison time to last eight years
What is the true sentencing of Dr. Peter LaFuria? The American Press said he had an eight-year sentence. Lagniappe said he was sentenced to 6 1/2 years. Which is true?
District Attorney John DeRosier said after the sentencing that LaFuria would serve the first eight years of his 23-year term “hour for hour,” without parole or good-time reduction. The remaining 15 years were suspended.
Holly Carter, the DA’s spokeswoman, reiterated on Friday that LaFuria, who pleaded guilty Jan. 8 to 20 counts, will serve eight years in prison.
In a news release announcing the sentence in January, Carter said the eight-year term encompasses three groups of charges whose sentences are to be served at the same time:
Eight years for each of five counts of molestation of a juvenile.
Eight years for each of five counts of sexual battery.
Five years for each of five counts of video voyeurism.
The suspended part of the sentence involves five consecutive three-year terms for five counts of obscenity.
Additionally, LaFuria was ordered to pay $25,000 in prosecution costs and $5,000 in fines on the obscenity charges, and he must serve five years’ probation and register as a sex offender.
According to the state Department of Corrections’ inmate locator service, LaFuria is in Avoyelles Correctional Center in Cottonport.
Officials to announce rabies clinic info soon
What month and day will the annual rabies clinic be held, and what is the cost? Will debit cards be accepted? Will it be under cover?
Nathan Areno, director of Calcasieu Parish Animal Services, said officials are finalizing details now and will soon announce the clinic dates and costs.
He said the event will be outdoors; only cash and checks will be accepted.
