JENNINGS — A grand jury this week upgraded the charges against a Welsh woman who police said killed one man and injured another in a shooting in June.

Rosalyn Faith Breaux, 26, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and attempted manslaughter charges earlier this month in 31st Judicial District Court.

She now faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Authorities said Breaux shot Jeremy Ardoin, 38, and Nick Coble at a residence in the 500 block of Naebers Street in Welsh. Ardoin was hit in the chest and later died in a local hospital, police said. Coble was shot in the shoulder and was treated and released.

Breaux has claimed she fired in self-defense.

Welsh Police Chief Marcus Crochet said officers were called to the residence in response to a disturbance and shots being fired. Breaux and Ardoin were in a relationship; Coble was their friend, police said.

If convicted, she faces life in prison for second-degree murder and up to 50 years for attempted second-degree murder. She remains in the parish jail on $750,000 bond awaiting a Jan. 26 trial date.
