SULPHUR — After three seasons as the head football coach at Sulphur High School, Harold Fusilier is stepping down.
He is expected to remain as the school’s athletic director.
“It is a good time to try and get some new blood in here and see what they can do,” Fusilier said.
Under Fusilier, the Tors posted just a 13-17 record. This year they finished 4-6 despite getting off to a fast start.
In the season opener, the Tors posted a 35-28 upset over state power St. Thomas More, which led to hope of a big season.
However, three straight losses to end the year left the Tors out of the Class 5A playoffs.
“It is always disappointing if you don’t make the playoffs,” said Fusilier . “That is everybody’s goal to start the season. But that is not the only reason for my decision.”
Fusilier called the decision “basically mine.” when asked if their was any pressure for him to step down after the season.
“We have not been as successful as I would have liked us to be,” he said. “That is the main reason I believe we need to go in a new direction.“There is never a good time for a change, but making this decision this early gets things started.”
Fusilier believes the job is an attractive one and that Sulphur can be a solid football program once again.
“We have won here before and that is the goal,” he said. “I’m hoping that a change in teaching and some fresh ideas will help us out.”

Title: Golden Tornados
I think this is the best for Sulphur High School. The school has a long honored tradition in the playoffs with its football program. The people of Sulphur have a great pride in their school and know they have some great young men and women who can and will excel in sports. It a takes a good quality coach who can help them to develop their talents and strive to do even more. Coach Fusilier is a great defensive coach and that is where his talents belong. I am looking forward to a new season and new horizons for the Sulphur Golden Tors.
