Police have made arrests in two of the weekend’s three killings, but are waiting to determine if a third was in self-defense, officials said at a Monday news conference.

Police arrested 24-year-old Keenan Wade Cedars and 17-year-old Austin Benjamin Cedars and charged them with second-degree murder in the Sunday night shooting death of 26-year-old Anthony Batiste, Lake Charles Police Chief Don Dixon said.

The shooting happened at the Cedars’ home, 3214 Louisiana Ave.

Police also arrested a witness to the death, 35-year-old Shawna Wilson Cedars, and charged her with possession of CDS I with intent to distribute.

Dixon said Quentin Lorden was stabbed to death sometime Sunday morning after an altercation between he, his girlfriend and another woman.

Lorden was at 1700 Second St., visiting with two females, when his girlfriend entered.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Lorden got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend and then he and his girlfriend got into a physical fight with one of the other females.

Lorden was stabbed and his girlfriend was cut, Kraus said.

Dixon said the female was also injured, but declined to elaborate.

Dixon said Batiste’s death was the result of a domestic disturbance.

He said it is believed that Shawna Cedars had an “on-again, off-again” relationship with Batiste.

He said police “believe the victim came back to the house to retrieve property.”

It was the first time the city had two homicides on the same day since Sept. 30, 2011, when two women were killed in separate domestic violence incidents.

Dixon commended the officers for their hard work.

“I want to tell you, from Friday night leaving the Barbe game, until last night, this team worked together,” Dixon said. “From canine, to patrol, to detectives, to community policing, to SWAT, it’s unbelievable the dedication these men and women have.”

Keenan Cedars and Austin Cedars are being held on $1 million bond each and Shawna Cedars is being held on $20,000 bond.

Dustin Pleasant, 26, was charged with second-degree murder in the Friday-night death of Brittany Grosse. His bond was set at $2 million.
