From staff reports

There were no serious injuries but one operator was sent to the hospital around 3:30 p.m. Monday after a fire broke out at the PPG Plant in Lake Charles, a company official said.

Mike Huber, PPG’s environmental, health and safety manager, said he is not sure what is wrong with the operator, but he does know that he is in stable condition and is expected to be released shortly.

The operator was in charge of securing the plant during and after the fire, Huber said.

PPG spokeswoman Patricia Prebula said the fire started in the facility's PHH unit, which produces vinyl.

An Emergency Response Team was called to the site shortly after 1 p.m., Prebula said.

Huber said plant officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
