Entergy signs agreement to supply power to Sempra LNG plant

Entergy Gulf States Louisiana on Tuesday said it has signed a commercial and contractual agreement with Sempra Energy’s Cameron LNG unit to supply up to 200 megawatts of extra power to the proposed gas liquefaction project in Cameron Parish.
Sempra announced plans in 2012 to build a natural gas export facility at the site of its existing Cameron LNG terminal in Hackberry. Entergy provides electrical services to the existing terminal.
The 30-year power contract between Entergy Gulf States Louisiana and Cameron LNG has a 10-year initial term and automatic renewals for four successive five-year terms. Entergy plans to upgrade its transmission system to meet the increased demand the liquefaction facility will generate, officials said.
Construction on the $7 billion liquefaction project is expected to start in 2014. The first train is expected to begin operations in 2017 and all three trains in 2018.
