Entergy’s Westlake employees will have to wait to find out if the company’s estimated 240 layoffs across Louisiana will affect them.

“We don’t have that information at this time,” said Charlotte Cavell, spokesperson for Entergy Gulf States, Louisiana. “The only (job loss) breakdowns we have are by state and major metropolitan areas. We don’t have any other breakdowns at this point.”

The utility announced its plans to cut 800 jobs across the country, with about 240 of them located in Louisiana. Entergy will cut an estimated 160 jobs at its New Orleans headquarters and 25 at its Baton Rouge office, leaving about 55 jobs in Louisiana that still remain to be eliminated.

Cavell said Entergy officials are in discussion on the remaining layoffs but are unsure where or when they will occur.

“The process is ongoing, and it should be completed by the end of this year,” she said. “Employee meetings are currently happening throughout our system. Leaders are meeting with employees.”

The announcement comes on the heels of the company’s recent report that its second-quarter net income dropped 55 percent.

Entergy’s estimated layoffs in Louisiana will account for about 30 percent of the utility’s 800 job losses.

Entergy also announced 165 layoffs in Arkansas, 115 in Texas, 110 in New York, and 80 in Mississippi. The company’s Massachusetts, Michigan and Vermont offices would each lose about 30 employees.

The company’s Westlake plant employees 160 workers.
