The Calcasieu Workforce Center is hosting its second Youth Summit and Job Fair from 7:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Charles Civic Center’s Mezzanine and Contraband Room.

Stephanie Seemion, director of the parish Workforce Investment Board, said the job fair is aimed at teens and young adults ages 16-24. She said this year’s theme is “Get Over YOUrself,” and the event is intended to prepare and motivate young people for their career path.

At least 25 employers will be on hand to interview those who attend, Seemion said. She said there will also be several sessions on topics like job interview skills and filling out a resume.

“They need to know how to present themselves to an employer at an early age,” Seemion said. “We’re trying to teach them what life is like when you get out in the working world.”

Seemion said TaMarlon Carter will be the event’s guest speaker. Carter is the special projects manager for the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The job fair is sponsored by the Calcasieu Police Jury, the Workforce Investment Board and the Louisiana Workforce Commission. It is funded by the Workforce Investment Act.

Those wanting to attend are encouraged to preregister online by visiting www.cppj.net/youthsummit. Seemion said attendees should be well-dressed and should bring a resume to the event.
