A 31-year-old Westlake man was sentenced in federal court Friday to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography, said U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley.

Michael Sonnier, who pleaded guilty Aug. 1, was also sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release.

Finley said authorities detected Sonnier downloading child pornography using file-sharing software.

A search of his computer and phone revealed that he had downloaded more than 26 movies of child pornography, including sadistic material depicting prepubescent children, she said.
