The last day to register to vote or update voter registration information to be eligible to vote in the Oct. 19 elections is Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Those not registered already, or who need to update information including name or address, should bring proof of identification, age and residency, to the registrar of voters office in the parish they live. Offices are open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Early voting for the election is Oct. 5-12, excluding Sunday, at parish registrar of voters offices.

There are no October elections in Calcasieu or Cameron parishes.

The Allen Parish ballot will include a special election for justice of the peace, Ward 3.

Miranda “Mandy” Fontenot and Dawn Perkins are seeking the seat. The election is being held to replace Billie Felice who resigned. Donna Chambers was appointed to serve until the election could be held.

In Beauregard Parish, voters will decide on a 10-year, 4.97 millage continuance for maintenance and improvement of facilities and equipment for Fire District No. 1. The millage represents a .56 increase over the current 4.41 mills.

Beauregard Parish voters are also being asked to approve the continuance of a 10-year, 21.35 mill property tax for operation and maintenance of schools, including salaries and cost of library books. The millage represents a 2.20 increase due to reappraisal over the current 19.15 mills.

Also, Beauregard Parish voters will decide on a 10-year, 24.36 mill property tax for maintenance and improvement of roads and bridges in Road District No. 1-A.

In Jeff Davis Parish, Jennings voters will elect council members for District A and District D.

Incumbent Rogeous “Randy” Lawdins is facing a challenge from Carolyn K. Simon for the District A seat.

In District D, incumbent Anthony “Coach” LeBlanc is being opposed by Janet M. Jones and Wilton Journet Sr.

All other council members were re-elected without opposition in August.

In other parish elections, voters in the Fenton area are being asked to approve a new 10-year, 10-mill property tax for Fire Protection District 5.

Voters in Road District 10 of Ward 1, 2 and 3, which includes the rural areas of Jennings and Lake Arthur, will decide on the renewal of a 10-year, 11.33 mill property tax for maintenance and improvement of public roads.

Voters in Road District 12 of Wards 6,7 and 8, which includes areas south of Welsh, Lacassine and Roanoke, will decide on the continuance of a 10-year, 10.94 mill property tax for improvement and maintenance of public roads.

In Fire Protection District 1, which includes Roanoke, voters will be asked to approve the continuance of a 10-year, 10.49 mill property tax for operation and maintenance.

Voters in Fire Protection District 3, which includes Woodlawn, Lacassine, Bayou Chene and Welsh, will vote on the renewal of a 10-year, 3.59 mill property tax for construction and improvement of fire protection facilities and equipment.

In Fire Protection District 4, which includes areas outside of Lake Arthur, voters will decide on the renewal of a 10-year, 5-mill property tax for operation and maintenance.

Voters in the Broadmore Gravity Drainage District in the Lake Arthur area will decide on the renewal of a 10-year, 8.8-mill property tax for maintenance and operation.

Gravity Sub-Drainage District A of Gravity Drainage District 1, also in the Lake Arthur area, is seeking renewal of a 10-year, 11.39-mill property tax for operation and maintenance.

Grand Marais Gravity Drainage District, which includes the areas north of Jennings and areas surrounding Jennings, is also seeking a 10-year, 6.7-mill property tax renewal for operation and maintenance.

Voters in Gravity Drainage District 9, which includes the area south of Welsh, will decide on a 10-year, 9.21-mill property tax renewal for operation and maintenance.

In Vernon Parish voters in the Evans area will elect a new constable, justice of the peace for Ward 3.

The seat was vacated by Bobby Minion.

Allen “Shane” Jeane and Joe Simmons are seeking the seat.

Voters in Simpson will also elect a new police chief to replace Sherlin Burkes who resigned. Houston “Tully” Burns Jr. and David Delrie are candidates.

Voters in Road District 7, will also decide on two separate millage issues for roads and bridges.

The first one is for the continuation of a 10-year, 7.38 mill property tax for maintenance of roads and bridges and the second is for continuation of a 10-year-, 2.95 mill property tax for construction and improvements of roads and bridges.
