A man suspected in a June killing at an Iris Street apartment complex was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder Thursday.

Authorities said Cody Ray Lucero, 19, killed Edward Lee Wilkes, 18, in Lucero’s second-story apartment with a single gunshot to the head.

In a court hearing July 26, officers said Lucero told a friend he shot Wilkes after he came through the window of the apartment.

Wilkes was also a tenant of the apartments, living on the third floor. He was killed around 11 p.m. June 8.

Lucero was arrested at a motel in Kinder on June 9, Fondel said.

Lucero is being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on $1 million bond.
