Sulphur woman charged with theft, burglary, forgery

A 31-year-old Sulphur woman has been charged with simple burglary, theft under $500, forgery, identity theft and unauthorized use of an access card, authorities said.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Ashley R. Murphy, 5013 Hawthorne St., was arrested Monday.
“On Feb. 10, deputies were dispatched to a home in Sulphur in reference to a burglary,” Myers said Wednesday in a news release. “Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who said Murphy, a family member, entered his home without permission and stole several items including golf clubs, purses, checkbooks, credit cards and social security cards.”
Myers said Murphy used the victim’s credit card to purchase a room at a local hotel and gas from a local gas station by forging a check.
“When questioned by detectives, Murphy confirmed all allegations,” Myers said.
Judge Michael Canaday set Murphy’s bond at $176,500.
Detective John Melton was the lead investigator.
