A scary weather forecast has forced several area municipalities to move trick-or-treating up a day.

Heavy rain, possibly as much as 2 inches, is expected Thursday in advance of a cold front, said National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Tingler.

“We are going to start (Thursday) out with scattered showers and thunderstorms, and rain chances will increase to 80 percent,” he said.

“High rain chances will remain until sunset, then remain around 70 percent from sunset through midnight.”

The forecast for tonight is better, with “just a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm from noon Wednesday through midnight — about a 20 percent chance,” Tingler said.

Oakdale moved trick-or-treating ahead to today. New hours are 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oberlin moved from Thursday to 5-8 p.m. today.

In DeRidder, trick-or-treating was moved from Thursday to 6-8 p.m. today. Also moved up was the Mayor’s Youth Council Trick-or-Treat Trail, which will be at 6 p.m. in West Park.

Cameron Parish trick-or-treating was moved to 5:30-8 p.m. today.

No changes were made for Lake Charles, Leesville, Sulphur, Westlake or Elton, all of which will have trick-or-treating Thursday as originally scheduled.
