Calcasieu Parish Registrar of Voters Angie Quienalty will not face criminal prosecution following findings from a recent state audit, Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier’s office announced Tuesday.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office issued the report last month, indicating that Quienalty claimed time for hours she did not work, had her staff run errands for her while on the clock and used a parish-owned vehicle for personal reasons.

The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Elections Compliance Unit conducted an internal investigation of Quienalty’s office and found she worked fewer hours than she claimed.

DeRosier said in a news release that “several administrative procedures and office polices” were changed to follow rules and regulations associated with operating a registrar’s office.

Ron Richard, Quienalty’s attorney, said the registrar was not surprised with the district attorney’s decision not to prosecute.

“She is one of the best public employees and runs such a smooth office,” he said. “At the end, this was all initiated by a disgruntled employee. But she has handled it in a professional manner.”

Richard said he was pleased that the district attorney’s office reviewed the audit quickly, especially with Saturday’s election approaching.

The Calcasieu Police Jury appointed Quienalty as the parish’s registrar of voters in 1995.
