OBERLIN — The Oberlin Tigers made Southwest Louisiana’s deepest playoff run, reaching the Class 1A quarterfinals. The Tigers’ accomplishment was recognized by the American Press All-Southwest Louisiana Small Schools football team.

Offensive lineman Devonte Limbrick, running back Cedric Skinner, defensive lineman Michael Ryder, linebacker Jacob Ware and defensive back Chadd Strother all made the team. Pat Miller is the Coach of the Year.

Calcasieu Parish 4-H

LeBleu Settlement Elementary 4-Hers participated in the Calcasieu Parish 4-H Demonstration Day on Dec. 5. Below are their placings.

Kaylee Cormier placed first in Horse Individual demonstration. Lucy Ryder and Cormier placed first in the Junior Horse Team demonstration. Brianna Fullerton placed first in Home Economics demonstration.

Veterans Memorial Park

Trustee Frank Assunto handed a $10,000 check to Robert Ash for the Veterans Memorial Park.

The gift from the David Greenberg Trust is in memory of Lts. Marvin and Harold Greenberg, brothers lost in action during World War II.

Welsh wins at tourney

Welsh and Midland were first-day winners in the Midland tournament Monday. Welsh downed Crowley 63-59 behind 24 points from Michael Savoy.

Barry Harmon had 14 and Jaron Thorne added 11 for the Greyhounds. Jerry Doiron led the Gents with 23 points, while Jared Monceaux tossed in 20.

HD contest winners

CAMERON — Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Dronet won the overall prize in the Home Demonstration Club Christmas lighting contest here.

Second place was awarded to Sheriff and Mrs. Claude Eagleson and third place to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mouton. Honorable mentions were given to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones and Mrs. Adenise Trosclair.

Killed in action

LAKE ARTHUR — First Lieutenant Robert M. Arthur, 26, of Lake Charles has been killed in action, the war department has informed his mother, Mrs. Louise M. Arthur.

The lieutenant had previously been listed as missing in action since December 18. He was pilot of a transport plane that was used to carry supplies and to evacuate wounded.

Wounded in action

The war department has released a list of area soldiers who have been wounded in action on the fighting fronts. They are: Cpl. John A. Stewart, Lake Charles; Navy P.O. 3 James Charles Stelly, Sulphur; Pvt. Walter Peshoff, Cameron.
