ANACOCO (AP) — A 17-year-old girl who was not wearing a seat belt was thrown from a pickup truck and killed in a wreck that injured two teens who were buckled up, according to Louisiana State Police.

Winter N. Airhart of Anacoco was ejected when the Dodge pickup truck in which she was a passenger was hit by a GMC pickup and overturned about noon Saturday near Toledo Bend Reservoir, Master Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau, a state police spokesman, said in a news release.

He said the pickup tried to turn left while the Dodge was passing it about noon Saturday on Louisiana Highway 191 southwest of Many.

The Dodge’s driver — a 16-year-old boy from Anacoco — and a 13-year-old girl from Many were taken to Byrd Hospital with moderate injuries, he said. They were not identified because they are juveniles.

Moreau said neither the GMC’s driver, a 17-year-old boy from Lake Arthur, nor his passenger, 57-year-old Larry Pettijohn of Lake Arthur, was hurt.

The 17-year-old was cited with making an improper left turn and lacking taillights on the utility trailer he was towing, Moreau said.
