Eclectic mix of musicians lined up for weekend event
The annual Marshland Festival is the place to be Friday and Saturday if you want to pass a good time while listening to music that will include everything from country and Cajun to swamp pop and zydeco.
On Friday, doors will open at 5 p.m. and entertainment will continue until midnight; on Saturday, doors will open at 12 noon and entertainment will last until midnight.
The festival will take place in the convention center at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
In addition to live music, the event will also have booths offering a variety of food, arts and crafts, games, and exhibits.
Cuisine at the event usually runs the gamut and includes fare such as jambalaya, seafood dishes, a variety of sweet treats, and organizers have said festival goers can also expect offerings of “fried everything.”
An eclectic music line-up, featuring something for all tastes, is as follows:
Friday:
• Casey Peveto: 6-7:30 p.m.
• Greg Blanchard: 7:30-9 p.m.
• Keith Frank: 9-10:30 p.m.
• Wayne Toups: 10:30 p.m.-midnight.
Saturday:
• Joe Simon: noon-1:30 p.m.
• Louisiana Express with Johnnie Allen: 1:30-3 p.m.
• Cody Forrest: 3-4:30 p.m.
• Gyth Rigdon: 4:30-6 p.m.
• Water’s Edge: 6-7:30 p.m.
• Jamie Bergeron: 7:30-9 p.m.
• Tyler Booth: 9-10:30 p.m.
• Mickey Gilley: 10:30 p.m.-midnight
One of the biggest festivals in Southwest Louisiana, the Marshland Fest is rated among the Top 20 events by the Southeastern Tourism Society.
The event helps raise funds for 15 various schools, churches, and organizations in the community.
Admission is $10 per person on Friday; $15 per person on Saturday. There is free admission for 12 and under.
