A man jumped off the 135-foot Interstate 10 bridge over the Calcasieu River Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The man lived and was hospitalized with injuries that don’t appear to be life-threatening, said Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

The man, who has not been identified, is in his 20s, Myers said.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call about the jump from a passing driver at 12:45 p.m., Myers said.

Myers said the man drove to the top of the bridge and jumped off into the water. He swam to land, where he was picked up by the Coast Guard.

He has not been charged with a crime, she said.
