GRAND CHENIER (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says access to the Rockefeller State Wildlife Refuge will be temporarily restricted next month while alligator trappers conduct an annual harvest.

Starting Sept. 4, the refuge won’t be open to the public until 10 a.m. each day. The delayed openings will remain in effect for seven days or until the nuisance alligator harvest is completed.

The refuge spans 26 miles of the coast in eastern Cameron Parish and western Vermilion Parish. It is owned and maintained by the state.
