LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Officials say Liberty University is operating normally after a campus police officer shot and killed a student at an off-campus dormitory.
The Lynchburg school said the shooting overnight Tuesday followed an altercation with men students at the women’s-only residential hall. The shooting is under investigation by the Lynchburg Police Department.
Police Lt. Dave Gearhart told The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/1b5PP4H) that there was no ongoing concern for the safety of the students or the community. Police declined to identify the student, pending notification of his family.
Liberty University was founded in 1971 by the late Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell. It has more than 100,000 residential and online students.
