Landry-Walker back in 5A final

<p class="p1">Defending Class 5A state champion Landry-Walker earned its fourth championship game appearance in five years with a 60-57 win over the Ouachita Lions Thursday in the Marsh Madness tournament.</p><p class="p1">Sha’don Green made a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left, and a potential tying Ouachita shot at the buzzer came up short.</p><p class="p1">Green led the Charging Bucs (28-6) with 14 points. Paul King led Ouachita (29-3) with 20, including eight in the fourth quarter.</p><hr /><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Walker   89</strong></span></p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Natchitoches Central   63</strong></span></p><p class="p1">Jalen Perkins scored 22 points and Darius Hampton added 21 to lead Walker  (32-4) to its first state championship game appearance.</p><p class="p1">Brian White scored 27 to lead Natchitoches Central (31-4), the 2014 and 2016 5A champion.</p><hr /><h3 class="p3"><span class="s1">Class 2A</span></h3><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>N. Caddo   65</strong></span></p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Avoyelles Charter   39</strong></span></p><p class="p1">The Rebels shut down the Vikings and Chris Thomas supplied enough offense to carry North Caddo into the championship game.</p><p class="p1">Avoyelles Charter (21-9) shot 24 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 39-26. Thomas controlled the paint at both ends of the floor, piling up 24 points and 19 rebounds while blocking five shots.</p><p class="p1">Darriun Rice added 11 points, making 3 of 4 3-point attempts. North Caddo had lost in the semifinal round each of the past four seasons.</p><p class="p1">Aaron McGhee led the Vikings with nine points.</p><hr /><p class="p1"> </p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Rayville   73</strong></span></p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Red River  69</strong></span></p><p class="p1">The Hornets (36-0) advanced to the title game for a second consecutive year, pulling away from the Bulldogs in the final 2 minutes.</p><p class="p1">Mylik Wilson led the Hornets with 26 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. He also had 12 rebounds, six assists and five assists.</p><p class="p1">Emmarion McDonald led Red River (21-9) with 25 points. Jessie Davis scored 22.</p><hr /><p class="p1"> </p><h3 class="p3"><span class="s1">Division I</span></h3><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Scotlandville   58</strong></span></p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>McKinley   42</strong></span></p><p class="p1">The Hornets outscored McKinley 30-11 over the second and third quarters to pull away, beating the Panthers in the semifinal round for a second consecutive season.</p><p class="p1">Ja’Vonte Smart led Scotlandville (28-5) with 32 points, 24 of which came in the second half. Reece Beekman added 13 points and nine rebounds.</p><p class="p1">McKinley (22-13) took the Hornets to the wire last year, losing by three, but was doomed by poor shooting this time. The Panthers made 5 of 31 field goal attempts over the second and third quarters, falling behind by 17 points after holding a 10-8 lead after the first quarter.</p><p class="p1">Tyrese Radford led the Panthers with 15 points.</p><hr /><p class="p1"> </p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>St. Paul’s   59</strong></span></p><p class="p2"><span class="s1"><strong>Catholic-Baton Rouge   52</strong></span></p><p class="p1">Guard Parker Edwards scored 21 of his game-high 34 points in the second half for St. Paul’s.</p><p class="p1">Edwards drilled seven 3-pointers and was perfect on six fourth-quarter free-throw attempts. St. Paul’s (30-6) outscored Catholic (21-9) 20-9 in the fourth quarter, going 12 of 15 from the free-throw line.</p><p class="p1">Kentrell Garnett led the Bears with 16 points. Collin Holloway added 14 points and 11 rebounds.</p>
