Lake Charles man indicted on murder charge

A grand jury in state district court returned a true bill of murder against a Lake Charles man.

Michael Ja’Rel Tutson, 21, was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder in relation to the Aug. 29 death of California man Damion Derrelle Jackson.

Two other men and a woman were indicted on accessory charges for allegedly aiding Tutson. Marcus Dewayne Handy, 19, Lee James Gibbs, 20, and Johnnie Michelle Celestine all face accessory charges.

Handy and Gibbs were originally also charged with second-degree murder.

The shooting reportedly happened in the 600 block of Bank Street. Officers found Jackson on the sidewalk bleeding from a gunshot wound. He died at a local hospital.

Tutson was also arrested in June on drug and weapons charges.

Other indictments

Michael Shane Porter, 26, was indicted on a charge of forcible rape. The alleged incident happened on Sept. 24, according to the indictment.

April Monica Dupre, 32, was indicted on a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Dupre allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old between May 1 and July 19. She was arrested in February on DWI and drug possession charges.

Caleb Damon Barfield, 34, was indicted on nine drug and weapons charges. He was charged with marijuana, cocaine and codeine possession with intent to distribute.””
