LaFamilia Resource Center will hold its fourth annual fashion show fundraiser Oct. 4 at L’Auberge.

Doors to the event will open at 6:30 p.m.; the show will begin at 8 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the center, which provides services for the Lake Area’s multicultural community.

This year’s theme is “A New York State of Mind” — something close to Executive Director Sylvia Chavez Stelly’s heart.

“Sylvia, growing up in New York, has to have a little piece of home here,” said Sherese Picornell, office manager for LaFamilia. “The theme is her roots.”

Fashions will be provided by Dillard’s, Cantina Coture and Men’s Warehouse. Hair will be done by Signatures Salon; makeup will be by M.A.C Cosmetics. The clothing styles will depend on the models’ choices — casual, semi-casual, formal.

Models will range in age from 20 to 60, and for the first time the show will include both men and women of all races.

“We want to represent not just a certain look, like the magazines do. We want to represent everyone through the spectrum, so that it will appeal to more people in the community” said Daryl Boyd, the director of marketing for LaFamilia Resource Center.

“Maybe (there are) some older women who don’t want to go because they think that there will be just young, skinny, size-zero models. That’s not what this is.”

The event has grown bigger with each year, starting out at the Lake Charles Country Club, then moving to Treasures of Marilyn’s, and the historic Calcasieu Marine Bank building.

Organizers expect about 200 people to attend.

“I think that L’Auberge is a huge step from what we had in the past,” Picornell said. “I’m sure that people already there gambling will want to know what’s going on and get in on a piece of the action.”

The event will include a silent auction with prizes from Navarra’s Fine Jewelry, Starbucks Coffee, Harlequin Steakhouse, Christus Family Athletic Club and Accessory Zone.

Tickets are available at LaFamilia Resource Center, 104 Clarence St. and online at lfrc.eventbrite.com.

Tickets will be also available at the door.””
