KINDER — The town has been awarded a $20,000 state grant for street improvements in the Weatherford Subdivision.

Town engineer Tom David said the funds will be awarded from the state’s Local Government Assistance Program, which provides aid for infrastructure and long-term capital improvement projects.

The town plans to use the money to help fund an $80,000 asphalt overlay project on Ezora and Ezebe streets. The town will have to put up an additional $60,000 to $70,000 to help complete the project, he said.

Several other streets in the subdivision need similar repairs, but no money is available, said councilwoman Angie Van Norman. “Just for the record, we need it all done,” she said, noting that the subdivision residents often feel left out.

Mayor Estes LeDoux said nearly two dozen other streets “throughout the whole town” need to be repaired. A gravel street in the Guillory-Scott subdivision would require more money than is available, he said.

“We do what we can with what we have,” LeDoux said. “This is something we have been working on for a year or so and just now getting funded. There are other streets on our lists which we will try to do what we can for them.”(MGNonline)
