THIBODAUX (AP) — Police say a homeless man living in the woods near Thibodaux is accused of raping a pre-teen twice within weeks.

Thibodaux Police spokesman David Melancon told The Courier the child’s gender and age are not being released because police believe it would help reveal the victim’s identity.

Melancon says 49-year-old Brian Stickel lured the child into the woods Friday with a promise that he would teach them how to shoot a bow and arrow.

Police say Stickel had abused the child once before at the child’s home a few weeks earlier.

Stickel was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail on two counts of aggravated rape. He is being held on a $300,000 bond.

It was unclear whether Stickel has an attorney.
