The remains of a helicopter that crashed south of Lake Charles on Friday will be taken to a site for further evaluation, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board said.

Crews were working to clear the crash site on Monday, Keith Holloway said.

He said the typical protocol is to move the remains of a crash to a secure location.

“We continue to look at different parts of the aircraft to determine what caused (the crash),” Holloway said.

Holloway said that while the final results of the investigation could take some time, a preliminary report is expected within the next two weeks.

The helicopter, a Sikorsky S-76A owned by Era Helicopters, went down while on a maintenance flight Friday just on the Cameron side of the Calcasieu- Cameron parish line, killing all three occupants.

Pilot William R. Croucher, 69, of California and mechanics Michael Lee Tyree, 55, of Iowa, La., and Timothy Lloyd Goehring, 41, of Sulphur all died at the scene.
