Beauregard PJ approves new subdivision ordinance

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">DERIDDER — After months of deliberation, the Beauregard Parish Police Jury on Tuesday unanimously approved its new subdivision ordinance.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">“From tonight moving forward, any subdivisions submitted for approval will be expected to comply with the new ordinance,” Parish Administrator Bobby Hennigan said.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">The ordinance underwent several reviews and amendments. An earlier version was rejected by both police jurors and developers as “too heavy handed,” but Hennigan said the adopted ordinance seemed to best appease all parties.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">One of the most notable changes from the previous ordinance increased the minimum lot size to a full acre, with a road frontage of 125 feet, so that only one drainage pipe per lot is emptying sewer drainage effluent into the ditch.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">In previous meetings, some police jurors said a smaller lot size might be given consideration if the developer could provide plans for an alternate drainage system.</span>

<span class="R~sep~ACopyBody">Hennigan said all drainage methods would have to meet state health department standards.</span>
