More than 200 former Aeroframe employees and potential new hires showed up for AAR Corp.’s job fair Tuesday at Chennault International Airport.

On Friday, Aeroframe’s lease with Chennault was terminated and turned over to Illinois-based AAR Corp. — a new partnership that will reportedly create 500 jobs. AAR officials expect more than 80 percent of their new workforce to comprise former Aeroframe employees.

Chennault officials dubbed it one of the most important days in Chennault’s history.

The company will support a 750-job aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul operation.

Officials with the company have begun the hiring process to fill the new positions with a two-day job fair that will continue 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at 1945 Merganser St., the former Aeroframe facility.

Danny Martinez, AAR vice president of technical services, said officials were able to process about 100 applicants Tuesday and asked the remaining people to return Wednesday.

If it’s full again Wednesday, Martinez said, they will continue for a third day Thursday. The five-year lease includes the building and any assets that belonged to Chennault.

“The thing we want everyone to be clear about is that AAR did not purchase Aeroframe,” Martinez said. “There is a definite separation. Our job is to manage the facility and prepare it for AAR while there is still Aeroframe assets here that they have to figure out what they’re going to do with.”

Martinez said the hiring process is going smoothly considering the accelerated process of hiring former Aeroframe employees.

“There’s an added sense of urgency considering the situation former Aeroframe employees are in, and we recognize that,” Martinez said. “We want to get them back to work as quickly as we can.”

AAR expects for some employees to be working as soon as next week and in full operation in the next few months.

Positions available are A/P, S/M, R/E mechanics and leads, QC inspectors and lead inspectors, aircraft maintenance supervisors, QA auditors, production controllers, material handlers, tool crib attendants, planners, engineers, managers and directors.

AAR officials said they offer competitive pay and benefits. For consideration, bring a resume. If you’re unable to attend, call 312-2431 or 312-2507. Candidates may also apply online at www.Employment.AARcorp.com.””
