Early voting for Nov. 4 elections ends today

Early voting for the Nov. 4 congressional primary election ends at 6 p.m. today.

Voters can cast early ballots 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at their parish registrar of voters’ offices.

In Calcasieu Parish, early voting ballots can also be cast at the West Calcasieu Business Center, 500 A N. Huntington Street, Bldg. B in Sulphur or the Moss Bluff Branch Library, 261 Parish Road in Moss Bluff.

Voters should bring a photo identification.

Registrar of Voters offices in Southwest Louisiana reported a steady turnout since early voting began last Tuesday with more than 11,000 registered voters having cast ballots across the region as of Monday.

Statewide, tens of thousands have cast their ballots in advance.

Calcasieu Parish reported the highest voter turnout with more than 5,600 early voting ballots having been cast ahead of time.

In Jeff Davis Parish, more than 2,370 people have voted in advance of election day.

Vernon Parish reported more than 1,160 early ballots; Beauregard Parish had more than 978; Allen Parish had more than 660 and Cameron Parish reported over 165 early ballots being cast.

Races on the ballot include local elections for municipal offices, School Board members, district judges, district attorneys, justices of the peace and constables in several parishes.

All parishes but Allen will vote on 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal Judge between candidates Kent Savoie and Jamie Yelverton.

The race for 14th Judicial District Court Division G judge will be on the ballot although King Alexander withdrew from the race on Oct. 10. Incumbent Mike Canaday will be re-elected unopposed.

The race will still appear on the ballot in Calcasieu Parish, but no votes will be counted, according to Registrar of Voters Angie Quientalty. Notices will be posted at the precincts to inform voters, she said.

The ballot also includes U.S. senate and congressional races. Voters will also decide on 14 proposed Constitutional amendments.

In Beauregard Parish, voters will decide on separate millage elections slated for roads and funding services of the Beauregard Parish Community Association Inc.

DeQuincy voters will also decide on compensation of council members.

Vernon Parish voters in the Ward 7 School District will decide on a $1.2 million bond issue for school improvements for Rosepine schools.

Voters can use the state’s GeauxVote Mobile app to find out where to vote, what’s on the ballot and their voting districts.

Voters in Police Jury Road District 1-A will also be asked to decide on a 10-year, 24.36-mill road tax for maintenance and improvement of roads and bridges. It would generate $860,000 annually.
