Dubois: Back in a Pacific Northwest frame of mind

Yamhill County, Oregon, to be more precise. Or, as referenced by the mug promoting the most recent newspaper I worked for, Yamhill Valley -- as in the Yamhill Valley News-Register.

Who knew this weekend's sips of coffee would bring up such nostalgia about places where I used to be? Yesterday, it was the Community Coffee in a Tony's Pizza mug. Today it's dark roast in a News-Register mug, and with a canvas shopping bag from McMinnville's Harvest Fresh draped in the background (on a card table, where I left it after visiting Mac last week).

Mac, in case you've forgotten, is short for McMinnville.

Anyway, I'm blogging for the first newspaper I ever worked for about the last newspaper I worked for. And I'm helping the News-Register bridge the gap between its outgoing sports editor (whose last day on the job was Friday) and its incoming sports editor (due in a couple of weeks). When I opened a kitchen cabinet a few minutes ago to grab a mug, I saw this one and decided it was only fitting I drink from it today while I do my freelance editing and consultant work for the News-Register.

Oh, the dark roast is still from Community Coffee. I haven't forgotten my roots.

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful day.
