BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana's Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has announced plans to close shrimping in portions of Louisiana's offshore territorial waters.

The commission says in a news release it's a measure taken this time of year to allow small white shrimp to grow to more marketable sizes.

The areas affected include a portion south of the state's inside-outside shrimp line from the northwest shore of Caillou Boca westward to the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel at Eugene Island. It closes Dec. 18.

Also, a portion south of the inside-outside line from the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel at Eugene Island westward to the western shore of Freshwater Bayou Canal. That portion is to close Jan. 7.
